Office of the Governor

Each morning in this great land of liberty brings a new day of hope and possibilities for the future.  We are all very much aware that our great nation remains free, because men and women of our armed forces have served and sacrificed, with indomitable fortitude and commitment to America.

Cold War Veterans played a vital role in our nation's proud military history, serving with honor and distinction.  To celebrate their formidable role in our nation's armed forces and their unending devotion to freedom, May 1, 2004, is celebrated as Cold War Veterans Day.

At this time, I encourage all Texans to join in showing their appreciation to the contributions proud veterans have made in serving this great nation.  Old Glory flies high to their willingness to defend the inalienable we all hold dear: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Therefore, I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2004,
